AI-Native Documentation Standard

Core Principle

“Documentation is for agents now.”

Structure knowledge so AI can find and use it. Without structure, you have a pile of notes. With structure, you have a knowledge system AI can build on.

Required Structure

AGENT.md / CLAUDE.md

Every vault/repo must have a root file defining:

  • Vault philosophy
  • Folder structure and purpose
  • Navigation patterns
  • Note-taking conventions

Folder READMEs

Each major folder needs a README explaining:

  • Folder’s specific purpose
  • What belongs here vs. elsewhere
  • Naming conventions
  • Update triggers

Predictable Paths

AI retrieves by pattern. Maintain consistency:

  • Infrastructure 03_Areas/Infrastructure/
  • Project docs 02_Projects/[Name]/Docs/
  • Meeting notes 02_Projects/[Name]/Meetings/
  • Ideas 02_Projects/[Name]/Ideas/
  • Every note must link to related concepts
  • Project hubs link to all child notes
  • Ideas link back to parent project
  • Decisions link to the meeting where made

Why This Matters

“Feature brainstorming becomes way better when Claude has all the context, all the ideas you’ve had before, all the decisions you’ve made.”

Properly structured vaults enable:

  • Contextual feature development
  • Decision archaeology
  • Pattern recognition across projects
  • Compound knowledge building
