Writing interface
- The free and flexible app for your private thoughts (🤔).
I wonder why they emphasise so much about the private aspect, but hey the founder, Kepano and the team behind it is not just great, but also responsible thinkers. I write in markdown, I own the files and it has an infinite number of customisations.
Best advice I got so far on using obsidian:
Don’t get lost in the tool, just write
Turning it into a fast website
I use Quartz. It’s simple, it is compatible(mostly) with everything Obsidian, it works and is customisable. I do custom mods to the setup once in a while via “vibe coding” and it mostly meets what I want (works, but also allows me to tinker quite a bit). Their showcase page should give you a good idea of how customisable it is.
Side note on Typography - I’ve found this to be the best guide(with code) for beautiful, readable web typography Gutenberg
Obsidian also has it’s own publishing capabilities, and you can find it here and support the builders Obsidian Publish.
Quartz commands
push to github and trigger pipeline - (just mostly for me so I don’t forget)
npx quartz sync --no-pullor for bun
bun run quartz sync --no-pull
Flags and options
For full help options, you can runÂ
npx quartz sync --help. Most of these have sensible defaults but you can override them if you have a custom setup:
-d orÂ--directory: the content folder. This is normally justÂcontent-v orÂ--verbose: print out extra logging information--commit orÂ--no-commit: whether to make aÂgit commit for your changes--push orÂ--no-push: whether to push updates to your GitHub fork of Quartz--pull orÂ--no-pull: whether to try and pull in any updates from your GitHub fork (i.e. from other devices) before pushing
Hosting
Yes, it is really the Apple of the dev world. And yes, the founder might be problematic, might move later.
🍉
I own one domain which I split into sub-domains as and when I find it useful.
